Corporate banking
There are three distinct job roles within corporate banking.
- Relationship building: day-to-day contact with a client, getting to know their business and making sure that their accounts are running smoothly.
- Origination: carrying out research and marketing to bring new clients on board. Networking with intermediaries such as accountants is one of the keys to success.
- Corporate and structured finance: acquisition finance where an equity house is involved. When a new client is identified, the corporate and structured finance team will have a major role in putting the deal together.
Qualifications and skills
Applications are usually accepted from graduates with a 2.1 degree or higher in any discipline. Although formal training is given when you begin, an aptitude for numeracy is important. Interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to network successfully with senior colleagues, clients and other graduates will help you to do well in this sector.
