Biomedical scientist
Job description
Biomedical scientists test and analyse human samples, to find evidence of conditions such as AIDS, cancer, diabetes and meningitis. They usually specialise in a branch of medical laboratory science. Some tests are delicate and complex, requiring precision and vigilance in their implementation and recording of results.
Self-employment is generally not an option as work is laboratory based.
Work activities
- Using sophisticated equipment, computers and procedures to analyse human samples.
- Recording tests results, interpreting data and providing reports.
- Informing other medical personnel of results.
Work conditions
Travel: is rarely a feature.
Working hours: may be lengthened by some projects.
Location: generally in large towns and cities.
