Clerical assistants are very organised, have good IT and written skills and a good telephone manner. Responsibilities include filing, dealing with correspondence, maintaining data using computer or manual systems, and other general office duties. Their work provides support to an office team.

Work conditions

Travel: generally not a feature; work is office based.
Working hours: typically 9 to 5 office hours.
Location: vacancies are offered in offices throughout the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Entry requirements

A degree is generally not necessary for entry into clerical work. An administration course may be useful for certain positions. Courses in administration are available at various institutes across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The Institute of Public Administration lists accredited courses.
