Job description

Quality control (QC) is a procedure or set of procedures intended to ensure that a manufactured product or performed service adheres to a defined set of quality criteria or meets the requirements of the client or customer. QC is similar to, but not identical with, quality assurance (QA).

A career in quality control is not industry specific, as quality control scientists are found in a wide range of industries such as the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, diagnostics, medical device and biopharmaceutical industries.

Work activities

  • Performing analysis on raw materials, intermediates, standards and finished products
  • Calculating results and reporting of data, including trend analysis as required
  • Carrying out routine maintenance activities for QC systems
  • Meeting quality and safety standards
  • Reporting and communicating to QC supervisor/manager
  • Participating in the preparation of QC reports.
