Marketo, an IT firm specialising in revenue-performance management, will create 125 jobs in Dublin over the next three years.
Newry-based firm First Derivatives is to create 359 jobs.
Citibank is expanding in Dublin and Waterford, and will create 250 jobs.
Deutsche Bank is to create 75 to 100 new jobs as it moves its European hedge fund administration operation to Dublin.
The Irish Funds Industry Association (IFIA) announced that 432 jobs were created in the sector last year, with a further 711 jobs expected this year.
Market research company NPD is to create 80 jobs in Athlone: jobs will be in data classification and analytics, quality assurance and software development.
Oddsfutures.com, the sports odds trading exchange, has announced plans to create 10 new jobs.

Computers/ICT
ICT firms say it is hard to find the right staff for the thousands of vacancies currently in the sector. Tech firms are now looking for talent beyond specific roles and are increasingly creative in seeking out skilled workers. Hiring people with “logical minds” including teaching graduates is becoming as important as choosing those from typical areas like computer sciences and engineering. Currently Cannon has about 47 vacancies, SAP about 105 vacancies, Google about 170 vacancies and The Gilt Groupe expects to create between 100 and 200 jobs.
50 jobs are to be created by Limerick-based Enet, who manage the State's metropolitan area fibre networks.
PFH Technology Group is to create 20 jobs in Dublin.
Online security company McAfee is to create 30 new jobs in Cork.
Esri Ireland is to create 27 jobs in Dublin. Jobs will be for software engineers, solutions architects, business analysts and GIS professionals.
EasyLink, provider of secure systems to transfer data and files electronically, announced the creation of 20 jobs at Clonakilty.

Engineering
Cork technology firm GxP Systems has been unable to fill skilled engineering positions. There are vacancies for automation, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, validation and quality engineers.
Food and drink
At least 80 jobs are under threat at Diageo.
Last year saw the loss of some 7,000 jobs in the drinks sector according to the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland (DIGI).
General
Research by the Centre for Economics and Business Research, reveals that recent graduates are among the worst affected by the downturn. 40 per cent of last year’s graduates were reported to be “underemployed” in lower-skilled jobs, six months after leaving university; an increase of 30 per cent from four years before.

Euro General Retail has announced more than 100 new jobs with the opening of 12 new stores.
300 new full-time and part-time jobs have been announced at Dundrum Town Centre, with the arrival of Hollister and Wagamama,and the expansion of The Port House and Pink Beauty Emporium.
70 jobs have been lost with the closure of O'Connor's supermarket in Nenagh, Co Tipperary.

DHL is to close its warehouse facility at Robinhood Road in Dublin with the loss of 64 jobs.
