Aldi – an abbreviation of Albrecht Discount – is one of the world’s leading grocery retailers.
The first stores opened in the Ruhr Valley over 50 years ago and the company has seen rapid growth resulting in a network of over 7,000 stores throughout mainland Europe, USA, UK and more recently Australia and Ireland. Our international growth has been achieved by our adherence to a very single minded company philosophy: we offer the customer a carefully selected range of high-quality exclusive own-label products at heavily discounted prices. What’s more, these prices are guaranteed week in, week out.
This unique retailing concept has proved both simple and extremely effective, quickly establishing Aldi as a formidable retail force, which continues to explore further international opportunities.Wherever Aldi is established it dominates the discount sector by setting new standards in both price and quality.
In 1999 Aldi opened its first stores in the Republic of Ireland. Stores are now trading in Dublin, Cork, Donegal, Galway, Longford, Offaly, Louth, Mayo, Cavan, Tipperary, Kerry, Kildare, Westmeath, Wexford, Clare, Meath, Limerick, Roscommon, Wicklow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Laois and Carlow. Subsequent openings will see the chain develop a presence throughout the Republic of Ireland.
For the graduate joining the area management team, Aldi offers an unprecedented career opportunity with a comprehensive training and development programme. We aim to recruit individuals of the highest calibre who will enjoy being part of an enthusiastic and committed team in a fastmoving and stimulating environment. We need persuasive, energetic and confident individuals who can manage and motivate large teams. Leaders, in other words, who enjoy making decisions and take real satisfaction from producing results in a culture free from bureaucracy.
To train as an Aldi area manager you will have graduated with a minimum 2.1 degree in any discipline – retail experience is not essential. The most important qualifications you will need are passion and ambition: passion for quality and service and ambition to develop your own skills and achieve real success. After 12 months’ intensive training you will become an area manager with full operational responsibility for a group of Irish stores. Then, depending on your own expertise and ambition, within five years you will have the opportunity for promotion to senior management.
