Barry McLoughlin

Conferencing and Banqueting Supervisor, The Westin, Dublin

Degree subject Business, Tourism and Hospitality

Job title Conferencing and Banqueting Supervisor
Employer The Westin, Dublin

While at secondary school I did a two-week work placement in Stephens Hall Hotel, working in concierge. When my two weeks were complete I was offered a part-time job for the summer and that was my path set.

In 2001, while studying for my diploma, I learned that Starwood Hotels was going to launch its first Irish property, the Westin Dublin. I applied for a position and became part of the Conference and Banqueting team. In 2004 I completed my degree and during that summer I was offered my current role of Conference and Banqueting Supervisor.

My main duties include working closely with events organisers, briefing staff for the day ahead, conducting interviews, managing banquets, and conducting site inspections with potential customers.

I chose this career because I am hard working, dedicated and have a passion for customer care. I love a challenge and in this industry there are plenty of them as no two days are the same. I have no doubt that this is the right career for me.
