What is your name, employer and job title?

I am Andreia, I work for Ericsson and I am a developer.

What are the main tasks you do in your job in a normal week?

Everyone has a different experience because there are a lot of teams in Ericsson, so they are working on different things. In my team I work with issues that appear and we need to solve them, so I need to analyse and understand what the problem is and search online and also work with my colleagues to help each other.

What skills do you need to be successful in your role?

Being organized has helped me a lot but you also need to be self-taught. You need to search by yourself, you need to be curious also because that helps you to learn and good communication is very important. You need an open mind to collaborate with the other people, so teamwork is important. It’s 50/50, you need to have soft and hard skills, so you need to be very interested in growing yourself in both areas. You need to learn how to communicate with different people and you need to learn a lot of about self-management, I would focus on that, self-management is very important. On the hard skills you need to do projects by yourself to learn more, and also assist in things to help you to grow and share, it's a very good way to learn both hard and soft skills.

How was the transition from Portugal to Ireland?

The biggest thing was when you are here there is so much more than in Portugal, so it was a very big decision to come here. After I arrived here Ericsson helped us to get the PPS number and all the other things the people made us feel so comfortable, so the team environment helped me a lot and it becomes easier.

How did you get into your job?

My husband stated in Ericsson first and when he was there, he knew about a program that is the master program with Ericsson. I'm not from an IT background I'm from an environmental engineering one so I applied it to the master programme. They change the people from one area to another and there are a lot of steps to be accepted and I got lucky!

What do you love about your job?

What I love about my job is that I'm always learning something even in the hard and soft skills. I love to analyse and do a lot of research and solving problems and working with the team, that is really what I love
