What is... Computing?
This programme is designed to provide an entry path for Bachelors Honours graduates in other numerate disciplines into graduate entry level careers in data analytics/data science. The philosophy behind the programme is that graduates from other disciplines will have developed significant transferable skills in analysis, communications and independent learning and so will be in a position to quickly learn a focused subset of data analytics specific knowledge to level 8. During their first year of study learners on the programme will acquire core knowledge of computing areas, such as object-oriented programming, as well as data analysis concepts in the first part of the programme. In the second year of study they will then progress to a deeper knowledge in data analytics.

Entry requirements

The minimum admission requirement is an Honours Bachelor's degree (level 8) in a non-computer science discipline. Applicants with other qualifications and relevant experience may also be considered for entry as exceptional cases.

You should provide a full CV and a personal statement of why you want to take this course with your application. Given that this is a technical programme include in the statement some details on your analytic, numeracy and technical skills and any examples of this from your studies, life experience or courses you have completed in these areas.

What are my career opportunities?
This course will provide a deep understanding of the fundamentals of data analytics and data science. It will equip the successful graduate for a career in the data analytics and data science sector.

An individual project, to be completed in year 2, further strengthens the graduate's portfolio. Students on this programme may participate in an optional 6-month full-time work placement, which often leads to full-time employment. Our Industry Engagement Office can assist in sourcing work placements. Those who don't go on work placement will undertake a significant industry oriented group project.

Graduates of this programme are eligible for entry into specialist computing MSc programmes which are available through both full and part-time modes of delivery.
