Construction Project Management - Bolton Street

Construction management is a specialised field that involves planning, coordinating, and overseeing construction projects from inception to completion. It combines various aspects of project management, engineering, and business to ensure that a project is completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Key components of construction management include:

• Project Planning: Developing a detailed plan that outlines the project's scope, schedule, and resources needed.



• Commercial Management: Preparing and managing the budget, including estimating costs, monitoring expenditures, and controlling spending.



• Time Management: Creating and managing project timelines, ensuring that tasks are completed in the correct sequence and on schedule.



• Quality Control: Maintaining quality standards throughout the construction process by implementing inspections, testing, and compliance procedures.



• Communication: Facilitating clear communication between stakeholders, including clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and suppliers, to ensure everyone is aligned on project goals.



• Contract Management: Overseeing contracts with vendors and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.



• Safety Management: Ensuring that safety protocols are followed on the construction site to protect workers and comply with health and safety regulations.



The programme is a 2-year part-time programme with each year split into two semesters leading to an MSc in Construction Project Management. In year 1 the student will complete 35 ECTS. Year 2 will require the student to complete a capstone project over the two semesters 25 ECTS and 30 ECTS of taught modules in year 2. On completion of year 2 the student will have completed the required 90 ECTS.



The overall goal of the programme is to produce a highly educated, technically competent and marketable graduate who can make a significant contribution in this challenging and developing area. The programme aims to provide a high-quality learning experience and outcome for enthusiastic and motivated learners from a diverse range of discipline areas.



This programme is accredited by the SCSI (Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland). The Society of Chartered Surveyors is recognition within the profession. Accreditation with the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland means the programme has achieved the regulated high professional standard and competencies in all areas of Construction Project Management.

Entry requirements

Minimum Entry Requirements

An NFQ Level 8 Bachelor Degree with 2.2 award or equivalent in an engineering, built environment or related programme, or a level 7 ordinary degree plus 5 years relevant experience.



If English is not your first language you will need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency as detailed on our website. Applicants for this course should have a minimum IELTS (Academic Version) English Proficiency of 6.0 overall (or equivalent).

Duration

2 years part-time, blended delivery.



Schedule

Classes are held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm to 10:00pm in a blended approach (both on campus and online), with additional asynchronous and self-directed learning outside these hours. The program consists of 50% online and 50% on-campus sessions at Bolton Street. Students are expected to attend on-campus sessions 2 to 6 times per month during teaching periods.
