Data has become key for innovation across numerous industries, and is increasingly an indispensable source for journalists and news organisations, providing excellent material for investigative work as well as storytelling.

Data Journalism is about finding hidden stories in data, analysing and scrutinising the data to investigate the story, and communicating the story to the public in the most engaging and appropriate manner.

Data Journalism uses Social Science, Information Science and Data Analytics techniques in conjunction with journalism and storytelling to find and produce compelling data-driven stories.

This new Professional Certificate in Data Journalism will enable working journalists, or graduates in journalism and communication degrees, to further their education in this emerging area and equip themselves with the data skills needed in today's newsrooms and in this competitive data intensive economy.

Plan for a sustainable data journalism publication, build and maintain such publication in a collaborative manner.

Entry requirements

An honours undergraduate degree (NFQ Level 8) or international equivalence is required.

Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS 6.5 (no band less than 6.0 in each element), or equivalent.
