The Postgraduate Diploma in French aims to provide students who already have a background in French Studies at undergraduate level with an opportunity to develop their interest in and knowledge and understanding of the language, literatures and cultures of the French-speaking world. As well as increased linguistic and intercultural competence, the programme also offers students the opportunity to develop their awareness of a variety of theoretical approaches to critical analysis; to broaden their intellectual experience; to improve their intercultural and communication skills; and to develop their transferable skills, such as research skills, presentation skills, teamwork, organization skills and time management.
BA in French (with at least II.1 Honours degree), or equivalent. Applicants must have a recognised primary degree which is considered equivalent to Irish university primary degree level.

The structure of the Postgraduate Diploma (Level 9) in French is very similar to the MA in French. However, it is awarded after completing 60 credits of taught modules, whereas the MA is awarded after completing 90 credits of taught modules and the MA thesis (30 credits).

In general, there are two levels of fees payable. EU students from EU countries including Ireland pay a subsidised level of fees for both taught courses and research programmes. Tuition fees for students from outside the EU are not subsidised and are thus somewhat higher than for EU students.
