German

The MA in German provides students who already have a background in German with an opportunity to specialise in the areas of translation, literary analysis and applied linguistics. It provides the academic, analytical, and creative skills to foster interest in research in German studies.

It aims to enhance students' knowledge and understanding of important concepts in German language and literature (including their didactic and methodological application), culture and society.

It is possible to study modules of particular interest without completing a Masters degree or to exit with a Postgraduate Diploma (Level 9) in German after completing 60 credits of taught modules.

Entry requirements

Candidates normally must have obtained at least a 2nd Class Honours Grade I in their primary degree, or equivalent. In exceptional cases, candidates who do not fulfill this requirement may be accepted. Questions regarding eligibility for the MA programme should be directed to the Postgraduate Coordinator, Dr Arnd Witte, arnd.witte@mu.ie. Applicants must have a recognised primary degree which is considered equivalent to Irish university primary degree level.

Minimum English language requirements: please visit Maynooth University International Office website for information about English language tests accepted and required scores. The requirements specified are applicable for both EU and non-EU applicants.

Maynooth University's TOEFL code is 8850

The course involves two elements: a set of modules on which students will be examined in January and in May/June, and a dissertation (Minor Thesis) which students are expected to complete during the summer after their 2nd semester.

Duration

MHO50: 1 year Full-time
MHO51: 2 years Part-time
