Insurance - Life & General - for Data Scientists

The aims of this programme are:
To provide the student with a systematic understanding to the concepts of Insurance (both Life & Health and Non- Life), the insurance industry and its role in the Irish economy and the roles of the parties involved. Students will also be equipped to assess and critique how advanced Data Science / Analysis techniques could be applied to areas of the insurance business.

Programme learning outcomes:
• Articulate, study, analyse and challenge the primary concepts and nuances of the insurance discipline as it relates to data science.

• Critique and synthesise existing and new developments in data science research to enhance and inform the practice and development of effective data science strategies specifically in the insurance discipline.

• Plan, design and implement research projects individually and in groups of the challenges, opportunities and issues arising from the use of data science in the insurance

• Evaluate the effectiveness of applied data science in relation to the challenges/issues/opportunities to be addressed in the insurance industry
