GradCert Statistcs
Graduate Taught (level 9 nfq, credits 30)
The UCD School of Mathematics and Statistics group was ranked in the top 200 in the world in the QS world university ranking, and is the only statistics group in Ireland to appear in this ranking.
The Graduate Certificate in Statistics is a part-time programme over two trimesters.
The programme provides the students with both foundational modules on probability and statistics, as well as a wide range of more advanced and specialised statistics modules. The foundational modules offer a formal preparation on the mathematical aspects of probability and statistics. At the same time, the students gain access to advanced statistics modules which allow them to specialise in a particular area of interest.
This programme is ideal for part-time students who are interested in gaining an advanced knowledge of a specific area of statistics, in that the programme offers a streamlined pathway into achieving this goal, within two trimesters. In addition, the programme can be used to gain access to other graduate degrees, such as the EMOS-certified MA Statistics or the MSc Statistics.
The Graduate Certificate in Statistics does not require any prior knowledge of statistics, however, a demonstrated numerical ability is essential.
Vision and Values Statement
This programme is aimed at students and professionals who have an undergraduate degree which has a focus on mathematics, and who wish to gain a deeper understanding of a particular area of statistics. The programme allows the students to obtain an excellent formal training on the foundations of probability and statistics, and to focus and specialise on a particular area of statistics that they choose. The programme will serve professionals who are interested in gaining a deep understanding of a particular area of statistics and data science, but it can also serve students who are interested in pursuing a study career focussed on statistics and data science. In just two trimesters of part-time study, the Graduate Certificate in Statistics can provide a streamlined pathway into graduate programmes such as the MSc Statistics and the EMOS-certified MA Statistics.
Programme Outcomes
