VFX for Film TV & Animation - Limerick & Clonmel Campuses

This programme is designed to address the ICT skills demand for Computer Graphics for the TV, Film and Games industries. The growth of digital media distribution channels has seen an enormous increase in the demand for all forms of digital media.

The graduates of VFX for Film, TV & Animation will possess an advanced understanding of both the creative and technical processes involved in producing digital assets for 3D animation & visual effects for TV and feature film and related sectors such as the Computer Game and visualisation industries.

The purpose is to provide eligible applicants with a solid grounding in design and related disciplines at level 08 the opportunity to take part in a structured education programme that leads to a third level qualification on the National Framework of Qualification (NFQ) Level 9.

This is an industry focused course developed by ex industry professionals using industry standards tools and techniques. The overall aim is to take applicants with strong design and technology skillsets and produce graduates will have a range of advanced technical skills that make them highly employable across the television feature film media and creative technology industries.

Entry requirements

What are the entry requirements?
Applicants must possess a primary honours degree or equivalent. A level 8 degree in either Animation, Visual Effects, Film Production, Art, Design, Multimedia, I.T., Technology or other cognate disciplines and according to the institutes RPL (required prior learning) policy.

A Level 7 undergraduate degree may also be considered, as long as the applicant is mature (over 25 years of age) and has significant experience in the sector and/or creative field. There should be significant evidence of prior industry experience or personal and/or creative development.

Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPL) will be granted based on relevant experience and training in accordance with LIT's RPL policy.

The normal minimum qualifications entitling a student to be considered for admission are as follows:

Level 08 degree, 2:2 or above or equivalent from a Irish university, or comparable institution in an art, media or design or technology related field,

or

A professional qualification or diploma deemed to be equivalent to an Honours degree in an art, media or design field

or

Industry experience deemed to be equivalent to an Honours degree in a cognate discipline in accordance to the institutes RPL (required prior learning) policy . Candidates in this category will have to comply with the Institute's established procedures for non-standard entrants. A portfolio of relevant work or industry showreel will be required here.

Candidates are expected to present a digital portfolio of work and/or to detail their relevant experience with their initial application.

Exceptional well-qualified candidates from other disciplines may be considered at the discretion of an interviewing panel.

8 months

This programme will be delivered part-time between LIT Limerick and LIT Clonmel (TBC)

30% classroom & 70% online

Each module will commence with a number of classroom sessions/tutorials and then move to online delivery (MSTeams/Moodle/Zoom)
