What does your job involve?
My current role is as a Digital Media Associate with Glanbia, so I work in the digital command centre in Dublin, using a tool called Social Studio. This powerful tool allows us to look at all social media platforms concerning Glanbia brands. On a daily basis I would monitor activity on this platform and ensure that any activity in relation to our brands is consistent and valuable to our audience, it's all about developing insights into what content we should generate for our audience.
How did you get your job?
I studied a Commerce degree in UCD, and then I did an MSc in Marketing Practice at the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. On that course we got to work with live commericial projects, and through this I got interested in how social media can be used for business. I saw the Glanbia role on offer and was attracted by both the job and the culture of the company and what they had to offer so I applied for the role and here I am today.
What skills do you need to be successful in your role?
Communication skills are obviously very important and also the ability to adapt and react to new situations is needed, as the digital space is very fast moving with things changing on a daily basis. It's important that you keep up to date wqith changes in behaviour and technology.
What skills would you advise a first year student to develop?
Skills like communication and creativity are very important in this area, so anything that can help you develop these skills would be beneficial.
What's the best thing about your job?
I love everything about my job, it's really different every day and I'm always learning somethiing new. I work with a great team and they are so nice to work with.
What are your career ambitions?
The Glanbia Pure Ambition Graduate Programme has a three-year career path mapped out for me. So I'm starting off as a Digital Media Associate, where I'm looking forward to continuing to work with the different brands, continue to develop my skills and see where it brings me.
