After graduating from UCD with a BComm International degree, I went on to complete a Masters in Management Consultancy from the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. Following my three-month summer internship with a boutique, Dublin-based consulting firm, I joined BearingPoint’s Business Strategy and Transformation team as a Business Analyst.
During my first year I have had the opportunity to work across a number of industries including healthcare, financial services, public sector and telecommunications. While my title may say ‘Business Analyst’, I have worked in a variety of roles including quality assurance, project management, change management and business analysis. This has exposed me to numerous learning opportunities and illustrates the dynamic and fast-paced environment BearingPoint has to offer.
It’s true when consultants say that ‘no day is ever the same’ and this is exactly what intrigued me most about consulting. On a recent engagement with a central government department I worked closely with their project manager and project team facilitating workshops, requirements gathering and providing client support during user acceptance testing.
In my current project management role with one of Ireland’s leading network operators, my day typically begins with a ‘stand-up’. This is a team meeting held daily and aims to address the following:
- Progress on previous days’ activities
- Activities scheduled for the current day
- Addressing any risks/issues which may have arisen
Before leaving client site I usually compile a ‘checklist’ keeping track of my own deliverables and I also try to construct a plan outlining my expected activities for the following day.
Outside the office
I am a keen skier and try to make a least one ski trip each year. Before or after work, I try to squeeze in a 40 minute swim which brings me back to my competitive swimming days - yet not as enduring! I am a regular festival goer and I love traveling here in Ireland or abroad.
BearingPoint is a firm that values you as an individual. BearingPoint supports the goals you want to achieve and it is ultimately you who decides which path you would like to follow. It is neither too small nor too big and possesses all the elements you would associate with a larger organisation but with a nicer feel to it. I have just returned from an unforgettable experience in Berlin at BearingPoint School, meeting over 200 colleagues from across the organisation. I can’t recommend BearingPoint highly enough. The most important thing for me at this stage of my career is to be part of an organisation that I know will provide me with the support and opportunities to excel and further my career - for me that’s BearingPoint!
