When I sat down to write about my time in Choueifat, Dubai, I thought it would be an easy task, but how do you express on paper, something which has changed your entire life?
Before joining Sabis Network, I was living in Ireland with no major desire to travel, three years later, having now travelled extensively, the Middle East is my second home, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision.
Teaching in Choueifat has been both a challenging and rewarding experience. I have to admit, I was terrified boarding the plane and also going to school on the first day was so daunting, but this fear was not warranted. From the moment I arrived at the school campus, I was made feel part of the family and welcomed warmly. It was scary to stand in front of a class for the first time but this fear soon subsided as I felt supported and encouraged. Enjoying the interesting personalities of such a varied student body makes teaching such a fantastic experience. Each day is different and I feel lucky to play a part in educating a future generation. It is amazing to witness the students soaking up such challenging academic topics. They are enthusiastic to succeed to the best of their ability and I am happy to be part of their journey.
Joining the vast Sabis Network was the best decision I have ever made. I have grown as a person and I feel that I have contributed to the lives of others. The friends I have made, I now call family and the Middle East is a diverse and exciting place to live. I couldn’t more highly recommend experiencing it.
