Brendan Mitchell graduated with a MEng in Civil Engineering and is now part of the Dublin Development Planning team.

Changing how your city looks provides the greatest job satisfaction you can wish for. My job gives me the opportunity to work on some landmark projects in all areas of Ireland and help deliver development in a sustainable manner. My working day consists of designing infrastructure for new residential and commercial developments working in tangent with the Building and Places and Transportation teams. This involves drainage design, incorporating SuDS features to road infrastructure, improving pedestrian and cyclist facilities in local roads schemes.

I joined AECOM in May 2014 and have been lucky enough to work on some of the largest developments in Ireland at present such as the new Central Bank of Ireland on North Wall Quay and the new European Head Quarters of a Multinational Social Networking Provider in Dublin City Centre. AECOM is a fast growing company with a young, enthusiastic workforce. Career development is supported by AECOM’s CPD accreditation from Engineers Ireland, ensuring every employee is entitled to a minimum of 5 days training a year.  I am also part of the Continual Professional Development (CPD) committee in the office which organises lunch time CPD accredited talks and presentations on a regular basis.

I am currently working on the redevelopment of the Curragh Racecourse and the redevelopment of the Institute of Technology Tallaght offering the opportunity to work on some of the biggest development projects in the country.

The office environment is very friendly and everyone gets to know each other through the social club which runs events monthly with everything from sailing to a night out at the dogs.

For me the best part of working for AECOM is that you have decision makers within your office and team. The directors are hands on and supportive of your ambitions. The company provides you with the opportunity to make a difference to the changing landscape and being able to drive past a building or structure knowing you have contributed to its development gives you the greatest satisfaction of all.
