As part of the Communications Department, I spent a few months working on the CSR team, working closely with our charity partners, Barretstown and Clic Sargent. During that time I got an insight into how our charity partners work and the amazing work they do to help children with terminal illnesses.
In May, all graduates came together and we decided we wanted to raise money for Barretstown and Clic Sargent. We decided to organise a 24-hour spinathon for our charity partners and set ourselves a target of €5,000. We ended up smashing this target and raising over €9,100!
One of my favourite projects was working on the Trolley Dash in December. The Trolley Dash is a Supermarket Sweep type of raffle that happens every Christmas in stores. Customers purchase a raffle ticket for €1/£1 with all proceeds going to our charity partners, Barretstown in IE and Clic Sargent in NI. Every store then randomly selects a raffle ticket and the lucky winner gets the opportunity to do a Supermarket Sweep around the store and grab themselves lots of goodies just in time for Christmas.
The Lidl Graduate Management Development Programme offers training and development like no other graduate programme and this was exactly what I wanted. I never received any placement/co-op in college, but with this programme that didn’t matter. Since I’ve joined, I received everything from store training, to communication training and PR courses. Most importantly I received on-the-job training which is the most valuable of all.
I love the fact that I get so much opportunity. We get projects that challenge us, but at the end of the day, there’s no better way to develop.
Why would I recommend Lidl?
I can’t think of one reason why I wouldn’t!
