"The fantastic level of training I have received has given me the skills necessary to build a successful career at the highest level".

My undergraduate degree was Business Economics and Social Studies (BESS) and when I graduated from Trinity College I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Law along with Internships in law firms in Dublin and London.  Upon my return to Dublin I commenced my LLM and did my FE-1s. Having specialised in International Business and Law I was eager to pursue a career with a firm which would afford me the opportunity to build on my academic experience and to work on transactions with international clients so I was thrilled to get a Traineeship with William Fry.

Prior to commencing my Traineeship I worked with William Fry as an Intern in the Projects and Construction Department and this was an invaluable experience due to the variety of work I was involved in. Following some travel I commenced PPC I in Blackhall for an unforgettable 7 months.   The support the Firm offers you as a Trainee while you are in Blackhall is fantastic from general queries to assistance with exam preparation.

When I returned to the office I sat my first rotation in the Tax Department. William Fry Tax Advisors, as the sole Irish members of Taxand, offers great work and as Tax are very involved in the Firm's large transactions I gained a lot of exposure to fee earners in other departments as a result.

For my second rotation I worked in Corporate and being part of a department which has such a high profile was incredible. The variety of work and the exposure to global transactions you gain as a Trainee is second to none and I was fortunate to be given the chance to work on a multi-billion dollar acquisition which has been a highlight of my time here so far. The level of trust the Partners placed in me as a Trainee allowed me to grow in confidence and experience though it was reassuring to know that the William Fry open-door policy meant I could seek guidance and advice from those with more experience to ensure the client's requirements were met.

I am now working in Asset Management and Investment Funds and this is giving me the opportunity to work in a global industry as the department services some of the best-known international players in the field.

The social aspects of training with William Fry further reinforce the Firm’s emphasis on team spirit and good morale with the Trainee weekend away, summer BBQ and Christmas parties being particular highlights.  The CSR team are very active and there are great opportunities to get involved with the Firm’s fundraising efforts.  This year we had a massive uptake for the Calcutta run which is always a great way of raising money as well as a good day out and I have been involved in sporting activities such as the client golf outing and the annual trip to the rugby 7s in Richmond.

As I approach the end of my Traineeship  I can look back on the past years with the knowledge that the fantastic level of training I have received has given me the skills necessary to build a successful career at the highest level.
