Why did you apply to eShopWorld?
eShopWorld provides a fantastic opportunity to work with leading global brands. With eShopWorld winning the Deloitte Ireland Technology Fast 50 for three years in a row (2015-2017), I knew that the organisation would be fast-paced and innovative. As I was unsure what aspect of product I wanted to specialise in, the offer to rotate between positions was exactly what I was looking for.
What’s your role with the company now?
I work as a product analyst specialising in product management on the checkout team at eShopWorld. In this role, I work with eShopWorld clients to strategically deliver new features on the company’s eCommerce checkout solution. Some of my typical day-to-day tasks include the following: designing prototype mock-ups for new clients and wireframe mock-ups for new features, configuring analytical tools for clients to ensure that they can report on KPIs, creating detailed product requirements for new features while proactively identifying and highlighting key dependencies, managing client emails and creating process flows to map out new processes. This diverse range of tasks ensures that no two days are ever the same.
What did you enjoy most about the eShopWorld Graduate Programme?
The degree of responsibility and autonomy that I was given for a wide range of tasks. I worked on a number of different organisational projects which provided brilliant professional development and allowed me to work with a wide range of people in the organisation. With the relatively flat organisational structure at eShopWorld, managers are accessible for any questions that you may have. Starting work with other graduates made the transition from college to work an enjoyable one.
What’s been your biggest challenge to date?
I was given responsibility for a project 4 weeks after starting with the organisation. It was a challenge to learn all aspects of eShopWorld’s offering in a short period of time but looking back, this employee empowerment provided a positive learning experience and allowed me to quickly learn the different functions and teams in the company. Working on the checkout team guarantees exposure to a number of different programmes and tools. While this can initially prove challenging, the provision of a professional learning platform for employees enables continuous upskilling and the opportunity for professional development.
