Stream: Business IT / Placements: Certas Energy UK – Warrington & Falkirk, Exertis UK – Burnley
The diverse nature of the programme helped me to develop competencies that I am certain will continue to aid my future career progression.
My focus during my placement at Certas Energy UK was split between project management of the integration of their largest acquisition and responsibility for a large number of internal business improvement projects.
At Exertis UK, I worked alongside the development team to improve efficiency by digitalising processes. This ranged from warehouse distribution to software development. My role as a business analyst was to liaise with the business, understand and document their requirements, work with the developers to design and develop a solution and then to test and implement this solution alongside the business.
The combination of working in two businesses in different industries gave me a vast range of experiences in a short space of time. It also encouraged me to work at a fast pace in order to deliver my projects on time. This has been extremely valuable, and I’ve been able to apply it elsewhere in my day-to-day work.
Whilst on the programme, DCC has also sponsored my completion of the PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner project-management certification. I am certain this went some way toward helping me secure a permanent role as a Project Manager for Certas Energy UK following the completion of the programme.
My role is focused upon strategic projects and acquisition integration across the Energy businesses. I worked on the acquisitions in Hong Kong & Macau and the USA, as well as supporting our European businesses transition to the cloud. I discovered that I really enjoyed working on projects during the programme, so project management was a natural progression for me.
The programme is a great opportunity to challenge yourself, take on responsibility and discover your future career. The group is flexible enough to offer space to develop your career interests. DCC is continuing to expand around the world which is only going to increase the diversity and opportunities that are available to graduates.
