I joined the Data & Analytics (D&A) team in 2018 to apply my analytical mindset to real business problems. What I like about analytics is that it blends technology with business acumen. We need to understand everything from the lowest level development code to the highest level corporate strategy. This intersection of skillsets allows us to bring valuable insights to business leaders.
The Data & Analytics role guides a client through the stages of building a data driven strategy. We review a client’s business model and define requirements, build a data warehouse, visualise insights and then move into the machine learning and predictive space where the magic happens.
There are no normal days at BearingPoint, every day is unpredictable which keeps me on my toes. There are times when you feel an adrenaline rush reaching a deadline and there are times when you spend the day discussing the art of the possible with teammates. I have worked on several different projects with many clients including public sector departments, Irish SME’s and large multinationals.
I am lucky enough to be within cycling distance of the city centre office on Adelaide road. I start most days here with a nice shower and breakfast in the office before venturing out to visit clients for workshops and project update meetings. Back in the office I work on development pieces, get involved with new project proposals and support growing and developing the firm.
Outside the office
Downtime is important for everyone to manage stress, build relationships and develop as a person. Running has become my focus and I enjoy heading out with my club and volunteering at Marlay parkrun on Saturday mornings. My running is a great excuse for early nights however this isn’t always successful.
BearingPoint has a good atmosphere where you are enabled to perform your best through positive support. As a professional services firm we are the sum of our people. This people centred approach can be seen through our clubs and focus groups who arrange regular social events and support causes that matter.
My favourite element so far has been the flexibility to identify, suggest and get involved in projects. For example, I recommended that we bring in final year students to support their masters thesis. I was trusted to take this on and lead the project to completion – it allowed me to give back to my university, mentor students and add value to the company.
