Survey Development Technician, MJM Marine Ltd. Newry, Co. Down

It has forged close working relationships with its commercial and marine clients, as well as providing bespoke joinery for office, retail and private residential projects


This particular sector is currently undergoing new and exciting developments in data gathering and management. MJM wish to maintain their position as industry leader by adopting and integrating the latest technological developments into their processes. This project aims to create, develop and embed expertise in 3D scanning, data management and utilisation of 3D CAD within the Company. In addition, by implementing an effective 3D scanning strategy and associated work processes the Company can become far more efficient in its production of fit-out solutions. This will remove a significant bottleneck to the development and expansion of its business by improving the overall efficiency and streamlining internal surveying processes. This is an exciting opportunity for a graduate to become a core contributor to the firm’s development and an integral part of the organisation.

Reporting to the Company Supervisor, you will be employed by MJM Marine Ltd to lead this InterTradeIreland FUSION project in partnership with Institute of Technology Sligo.  In addition, you will have the opportunity to gain a fully funded Postgraduate Diploma in Business & Management whilst carrying out your role.

Main Duties

  • To carry out the tasks outlined in the project workplan and liaise with your Company and Academic Supervisors on an ongoing basis.
  • To convene and service monthly technical meetings with the core project team (Graduate, Company Supervisor and Academic Supervisor).
  • To report formally on a quarterly basis on progress with the workplan to a Project Management Group (PMG), this includes the assigned FUSION Consultant representing InterTradeIreland.
  • To train staff so that the new technology is fully transferred and embedded in the company.
  • To work closely with the academic partner and travel to the academic institute as required.
  • Any other duties which might fall within the general ambit of the post.




Candidates must possess

  • Min 2:2 Honours Degree in Engineering or cognate discipline, preferably construction related disciplines OR an Ordinary Degree together with 1-year relevant industrial experience, particularly in engineering, quantity surveying or construction             management.
  • Be eligible to work in Northern Ireland and to travel globally as required.
  • As this post requires the applicant to travel on official duty, it is a requirement that the successful candidate has their own transport and a full licence.


  • Excellent surveying and CAD skills and knowledge of 3D CAD (Primarily SolidWorks or Revit) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) would be a distinct advantage.
  • Experience of design processes and systems and quality procedures is desirable.
  • Understanding of the ‘fit-out’ sector and how it relates to the construction industry.
  • Strong computer and IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office and project management software.
