Product Engineer – 2 year Internship (Graduate Level)

Siemens Healthineers is looking to recruit Graduates on a 2 year program from the following disciplines in the following disciplines, Mechanical, Mechatronic, Electrical, Electronic, Physics, Chemistry, Bio-chemistry and Bio-medical Science.

The successful candidate will report to a Principal Engineer or Senior Engineer on site in Swords and will form part of a flexible engineering team supporting development and manufacture of Medical laboratory diagnostics instrumentation.

Candidates will have the potential to develop a strong technical capability with ability to trouble shoot technical problems to root cause within the Engineering team. This will involve design and validation of technical solutions to enhance product and process capability across different technologies. Ideally, the successful candidate will have some practical hands on experience in hardware or analytical instrumentation.

Candidates must have an ability to work across a significant subset of the key technologies involved in modern instrumentation such as wet Chemistry, fluidics, pneumatics, molding, electro mechanics, software, electronics, optics, machining and metal fabrication. The ability to write technically complex documents in a clear manner and to understand complex operating procedures and guidelines is a key enabling characteristic due to the regulated nature of the business.
 

The Role

  • Provide technical support to Medical Laboratory diagnostic instrumentation product platforms in a low volume, high complexity and highly regulated technology environment. (Immunology, Flow Cytometry, Biochemistry).
  • Assist in design and validation of technical (mechanical and electro mechanical) solutions to enhance product and process capability.
  • An aptitude in the general area of mechanical and electro mechanical hardware is required. The successful candidate must have the capability to analyze problems to root cause with a structured approach.
  • Contribute to product and process design initiatives through all design stage phases (problem definition, containment, setting target condition, root cause, solution design, validation, implementation, monitoring on the production floor).
  • Ability to work across a significant subset of the key technologies involved in modern diagnostic instrumentation such as wet chemistry, fluidics, molding, electro-mechanics, software, electronics, optics, machining, metal fabrication.
  • Contribute to the continuous development of the quality system, including standard operating procedures (SOP's), product and process validations coupled with the ability to write concise technical reports.

 

Qualifications/Skills/Experience for this role

  • Must be progressing towards or hold a Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical discipline, (Mechanical, Mechatronic, Electrical, Electronic, Physics, Chemistry, Bio-chemistry, Bio-medical Science). We will consider recent Graduates from classes of 2017 also.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required. Practical experience with hardware or Laboratory work (e.g. workshop experience, practical summer work experience, etc.) is desirable.
  • This is a 2 year internship program aimed at transitioning new graduates to be capable engineers in a highly technical and highly regulated Med Tech environment.
