Supply Chain professional – 2 year Internship (Graduate Level)

Siemens Healthineers is looking to recruit a Supply chain graduate on a 2 year program. We are looking for graduates with an interest in the areas of commerce, planning, manufacturing and Supply chain optimization. The candidate could come from Supply Chain, Business or Engineering but other disciplines will also be considered.

Siemens Healthineers Swords, manage a complex Supply Chain with direct sourcing of thousands of parts across hundreds of vendors. We are the sole manufacturing site for large, complex, medical laboratory diagnostics instrumentation and spare parts assemblies that ship worldwide. The successful candidate would get exposure to Siemens’ world class supply chain processes which are managed on the SAP platform. The Supply Chain team spans customer service, procurement, commodity management, site productivity, warehousing, inventory control, logistics, planning and customs compliance. The graduate would get sample experience across some of these functions during the 2 year internship. Given we are introducing 2 new products, it is an exciting time to be involved in Supply Chain at Siemens.

Candidates will need to have the capability to analyse processes and data, optimize processes, identify efficiencies and reduce cost or improve service. They will have an interest in working constructively with teams of people at all levels to implement change and improvements. They will have a commercial interest in working with suppliers, customers and service providers directly. The candidate will need to be able to quickly learn and follow complex processes and procedures governing the business.

We directly source components for the following range of commodities (Fluidics, pneumatics, molding, electro mechanics, software, electronics, optics, machining and metal fabrication). We deal directly with customers worldwide, use 3PL partners and ship by air, sea and road. We are looking for an innovative problem solver with the personal skills to work with teams to achieve results and change. They will have the discipline, accountability and application to take responsibility for a functional role. They will have an outward looking, commercial perspective to deal with external stakeholders and benchmark best practices.

The Role

The two year Internship will consist of 3 x 8 month assignments across the supply chain organisation. The specific projects or roles will be determined based on business need and candidate interests. Some of the likely roles are as follows.

  • Purchasing assignment. Work with Suppliers to ensure they meet the delivery schedules and drive improvements in performance. 
  • Assist the Commodity, Productivity and New Product group in assessing new suppliers and/or implementing substitute suppliers for supply or cost reduction goals. Close tie to engineering on detailed component cost analysis.
  • Download and analyse data from SAP to improve workflow processes or provide management information.
  • Customer Service assignment. Work within the customer service team to manage inbound orders and prioritise and plan deliveries.
  • Work with the warehouse, Stores and 3PL line replenishment teams to get experience of the material flows and assist in process improvement.
  • Projects in the Customs and Export control to ensure that we continue to meet our compliance obligations efficiently.
  • There may be opportunities to work with other Siemens sites to support new product transfers or best practice sharing.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience for this role:

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (Supply Chain, Business or Engineering preferred but not exclusive). We will consider recent Graduates from classes of 2017 also. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required. Practical experience with data analysis and optimization. Training in 6 sigma and Lean tools will be an advantage.
  • Ability to collaborate and work comfortably in a team based environment.
  • Internship work in the Medical device of Pharma industries will be an advantage.
  • This is a 2 year internship program aimed at transitioning new graduates to be capable Supply Chain Specialists/ Engineers in a technical and highly regulated Med Tech environment.
