“Not Just a Great Place to Shop but a Great Place to Work”
Tesco Ireland Graduate Programme
With 14,500 colleagues working across our 148 stores, distribution centre and head office, Tesco is Ireland’s largest retailer and a household name with Irish consumers.
Tesco is the third largest retailer in the world, with more than 6,500 stores, and 500,000 colleagues in 12 international markets.
The Tesco Graduate Programme offers a unique opportunity to get first-hand experience of a hugely successful organisation and will allow you to contribute to both the retail and office-based aspects of the business. The scale of our operations allows us to fulfil our core business objectives of delivering a quality service to our customers, colleagues and across communities around Ireland.
About the Graduate Programme
By participating in our 18-month Graduate Programme, you will be challenged in both an office and store environment. As part of the programme you will spend time in our head office and stores. During your time in store you will receive the relevant skills and training in all aspects of day to day operations to become a manager.
You will also gain valuable experience in a variety of roles across our different store formats in a number of locations. In light of this, we ask that you are flexible and willing to relocate throughout the programme.
“The Graduate Programme was a great way to begin my career. The last 18 months have been challenging but extremely rewarding”
What will I be doing during my time in store?
Initially you will start a familiarisation programme to give you an insight into the most important aspects of the business. Then you'll move on to understanding what is expected of a Line Manager in store. You'll be part of the store team from your first day, trusted to deliver our purpose of “Serving Irelands Shoppers a little better every day” to every single customer.
You'll soon be responsible for improving customer service and challenged with increasing trade. You'll be leading teams, managing stock, launching new products and making sure our standards remain at the highest level. Once you've grasped the basics of leading a team and meeting targets, you'll start to develop the leadership skills required for a management role in store.
Sponsored by senior retail managers, you'll receive constant support through mentoring sessions and meetings run by experienced managers. The Store Manager and Personnel Manager will both be on hand to support you on a day-to-day basis. Graduate training and development days will also give you the opportunity to learn and share experiences with your fellow graduates.
What will I be doing during my time in the office?
Whilst in the office you will receive individually tailored training, senior mentorship with a real scope for progression around our business. During your placement in the office you will take on a project which will aim to add value to and improve the business and this project could be in any one of our functions listed below:
- Corporate Affairs
- Human Resources
- Trading Law & Technical
- Support Office
- Tesco Mobile
