Higher Education

Introduction:
The MA in Higher Education is a part time taught programme that is completed over 2 years.

The aims of the programme are to:
•Provide participants with a comprehensive grounding in a range of relevant uses of eLearning in order that they develop the required knowledge and skills to become eLearning practitioners and / or consultants in a tertiary education or industry context:
•Explore and encourage participants to develop the technical, pedagogical and cultural skills needed to design, support and evaluate appropriate eLearning opportunities for students in order that they are able to select and utilise appropriate technologies in order to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse population of learners;
•Emphasise the appropriate use of e-learning approaches in each participant's work and in the work of others in order that they are able to undertake a practitioner based eLearning initiative within their own working practice;
•Encourage the participants to reflect upon their own professional practice

Entry requirements

Entry to the MA in Higher Education is open to Graduates who have achieved an honours degree.

[The first 15 ECTs can be achieved through evidence of professional practice. Please liaise with the programme coordinator in relation to this option.]

Duration

Part Time Minimum of 2 academic years.

Participation on this course involves attendance for a half day a week. The MA in Higher Education is on Tuesday Mornings 10am - 1pm.

Subjects taught

In Year 1 there is a Professional Development module and modules are also offered in Learning Theories, Higher Education Policy, Academic Writing and Publishing, Creativity and Critical Thinking, Technology Enhanced Learning, Assessment and Feedback, Supervising Undergraduate Research and Research methods. In Year 2 the MA thesis module supports participants to undertake and complete a significant research project and present it in an appropriate thesis format.

Assignments in Year 1 and Thesis in Year 2.
