Are you interested in Leadership within Health and Social Care Services?

Sharing your vision for what is possible and motivating people to generate and realise far reaching practical change are hallmarks of success in any organisation. The aim of this Diploma in Leadership is to equip you with skills and knowledge in interpersonal communication, innovation, critical evaluation, informed risk taking and problem solving grounded on ethical principles and evidence based practice. This programme is designed for learners from all disciplines who are emerging leaders within health and social care.

This programme will prepare you to:
• Develop your personal effectiveness and leadership capacity in the context of current structural and professional change in the Irish health and social care services;
• Promote your critical reflective skills on leadership, change and partnership;
• Develop and advance your knowledge and skills in examining evidence underpinning practice;
• Lead informed risk management initiatives in advancing your professional practice.

Entry requirements

• Applicants must be registered as a nurse or health and social care professional and

• Hold a BSc (Hons) in health or social care or equivalent NFQ level 8 qualification.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
The Institute operates a policy that allows for the recognition of prior learning, both formal and informal. Informal and experiential learning includes non-accredited education, work based training and relevant life/work experience. This learning is assessed and this assessment may lead to academic credits, exemption from subjects on intended course of study or places on particular courses of study. Applicants are required to compile a portfolio of evidence demonstrating how they have achieved the learning outcomes of a particular module within a programme or how they meet the entry requirements of a programme of study. The Institute is committed to providing support and assistance to guide the learner through the RPL application and/or in compiling the portfolio. Applications for RPL are dealt with on an individual basis once a student has registered on a particular course.


This programme is of 1 year duration from September 2016 to May 2017.

Progression Opportunities
On successful completion of the course students will have gained 25 credits at NFQ level 9 that may contribute to the achievement of other academic awards, such as MSc in Nursing at IT Tralee.
