Are you interested in Leadership within Health and Social Care Services?

Sharing your vision for what is possible and motivating people to generate and realise far reaching practical change are hallmarks of success in any organisation. The aim of this Diploma in Leadership is to equip you with skills and knowledge in interpersonal communication, innovation, critical evaluation, informed risk taking and problem solving grounded on ethical principles and evidence based practice. This programme is designed for learners from all disciplines who are emerging leaders within health and social care.

This programme will prepare you to:
• Develop your personal effectiveness and leadership capacity in the context of current structural and professional change in the Irish health and social care services;
• Promote your critical reflective skills on leadership, change and partnership;
• Develop and advance your knowledge and skills in examining evidence underpinning practice;
• Lead informed risk management initiatives in advancing your professional practice.

Entry requirements

Prospective participants must be registered as a nurse or health and social care professional and hold a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Nursing or a health discipline or a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Social Care or equivalent NFQ level 8 qualification. The Institute's policy in relation to non-standard applicants also applies (see page 42).


This programme will be delivered part-time from September 2018 to May 2019.

Progression Opportunities
On successful completion of the course students will have gained 25 credits at NFQ level 9 that may contribute to the achievement of other academic awards, such as MSc in Nursing at IT Tralee.
