Stand Alone On-Line Blended Learning Modules • Level 9
Module Content & Structure
The aim of the modules is to provide substantial theoretical and practical continuing professional development for those interested in and/ or working with learners with special educational needs.
These standalone on-line blended learning modules involve e-tivities, discussion boards and face-to-face workshops. All on-line modules have a weighting of 15 ECTS. Modules are offered regularly over the academic year. All modules are completed within one semester (i.e. 12 weeks). Completion of two modules from the suite of on-line blended learning modules (30 ECTS) = Postgraduate Certificate.
Completion of four modules from the suite of on-line blended learning modules (60 ECTS) = Postgraduate Diploma.
Module Description
This module will focus on developing an in-depth understanding of the concept of literacy. It will provide an overview of literacy, focusing in particular on the areas of reading and writing.
It will also enable the learner to develop an understanding and knowledge of assessment procedures with regard to reading and writing as well as critically appraising strategies and approaches to developing these aspects of literacy.
The implications of digital literacy in the development of a broad and balanced curriculum for professional settings will also be addressed.
