What is... Environmental Health & Safety?
Please note due to the great demand for our programmes early applications are assessed when received and dealt with promptly. Therefore it is advisable to make early applications for an early response. If you do not yet have your final degree results this will not hinder your application as we are happy to issue conditional offer letters in such circumstances.
This interdisciplinary course is aimed at graduates who are seeking to update their current knowledge and skills and to enhance their career opportunities in the following areas. Occupational safety and health, environmental management, fire safety, food safety the built environment and risk management.

Entry requirements

Conversion Programme

An honours bachelor degree (2.2 grade or higher) or equivalent in a Science or Engineering discipline.

At least five years of experience, at a managerial level, in an environmental health and safety discipline

Students will also need to show excellent communication skills within a risk related work environment. Accordingly, it will be expected that international student applicants will have an overall IELTS score of 6.5 or better (with nothing less than 6 in each component), with strong evidence of fluency in written and spoken English gained through their professional experience.

Note: Due to the considerable competition for our postgraduate programmes satisfying the minimum entry requirement is not a guarantee of a place. Depending on the programme of study applications will be assessed based on your academic grades and may also take into account your work/life experience. Applicants may also be required to attend for interview for specific programmes.

2 Years Part Time

Method of Delivery Classroom

The full-time mode requires attendance for two days per week (Tuesday and Wednesday 10.00- 17.00) per academic year.

Part Time Schedule
The part-time mode requires attendance for one day per week per academic year, as follows: Year One: Tuesday 10.00 - 17.00; Year Two Wednesday 10.00 - 17.00.

Graduates are expected to be employed within manufacturing, technology, public and private sectors, chemical, environmental and associated industries in a variety of health, hygiene, safety, fire, food, quality, regulatory, consultancy and related roles.

Emphasis is placed on a practical and vocational approach to risk assessment and risk management with the emphasis on real life scenarios.

Graduates of the course are eligible for the award of MSc in Environmental Health and Safety Management of the Dublin Institute of Technology.

Assessment method

Assessment methods include essays, reports, case studies and a dissertation. There are no examinations.
