What is... Tourism Management?
The programme is a conversion programme aimed at both professionals currently employed within the tourism industry and those from complementary backgrounds who wish to enter the tourism field. In this context it may be of particular interest to people coming from a heritage, languages, geography, marketing or business background.

This programme aims to equip participants with the necessary expertise to manage, co-ordinate and develop tourism businesses and projects in Ireland and abroad. It is aimed at both professionals currently employed within the tourism industry and those from related fields. This dynamic programme encourages interaction between academics and industry practitioners from the national and international tourism sector.

Entry requirements

Minimum Entry Requirements?
Applicants should possess a bachelor degree at honours level (2.2 grade or higher) or equivalent. In addition, applicants may be required to complete an admission interview.

If English is not your first language you will need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency as detailed on our website. Applicants for this programme should have a minimum IELTS (Academic Version) English Proficiency of 6.5 overall (or equivalent) with nothing less than 6 in each component.

Note: Due to the considerable competition for our postgraduate programmes satisfying the minimum entry requirement is not a guarantee of a place. Depending on the programme of study applications will be assessed based on candidates? academic grades and may also take into account applicants? work/life experience. The DIT recognises both REL and RPL. Applicants may also be required to attend for interview for specific programmes.

Duration

1 year full-time.

Method of Delivery: Classroom

Schedule: The full time programme involves three days of lectures (14 hours) per week. Please note all lectures are delivered during the day (9 – 8 pm). Some content may also be delivered as a teaching block and / or in a blended learning format. Modules will be available as CPD modules. In addition to lectures students will undertake significant self-directed learning and research. The programme also includes a Masters Induction week to introduce you to TU Dublin and to prepare you for learning at Masters level.

What are my career opportunities?
Graduates of this programme have found employment in a wide range of positions within and outside the industry, nationally and internationally. Career paths include management positions in the travel sector, tour operators, international, national and regional tourism organisations, tourist attractions, hospitality businesses, community development, cultural organisations, cooperative marketing groups, support agencies and local authorities. There are also opportunities for graduates in research, teaching and consultancy.
