Management for the Non-Profit Sector

This course is aimed specifically at people working in the not-for-profit sector (NPOs). This course will enable participants to develop advanced core competencies in Management in the NPO sector, to build on learning and management skills already gained and to further develop the analytical skills and academic knowledge of students. The curriculum offers a richness and variety of learning that will ensure students develop a range of high-level knowledge and skill in research, strategic thinking and reflective learning. Students will further develop an ability to integrate knowledge, manage complexity and formulate judgements thereby establishing the foundation for a successful career.

The MA in Management course focuses on equipping students with the essential skills necessary to make an increased contribution to their NPO. In addition to the academic content of the programme the MA in Management equips its students with the requisite practical skills for a career in the ever changing environment faced by NPOs. The course is structured to develop competitive managerial leaders and decision-makers who can help their NPO meet the challenges facing them. The course will be assessed through work based projects which will allow the students to apply the knowledge learnt in class to their work situations.

Course Schedule
The course will be delivered through eight Fridays per semester – 2 per month. In addition, there will two hours of online delivery every week during the semester. There will be three semester of taught modules. During the fourth semester students will work on a research project with the guidance of a supervisor.

Entry requirements

Minimum Entry Requirements Applicants should have achieved a second class Honours Grade 2 (GPA 2.5) or equivalent in any Level 8 primary degree.

Entry Route into programme:
2nd Class Honours Grade 2 (GPA 2.5) or equivalent in any Level 8 primary degree.


2 years (3 taught semesters) and dissertation to be submitted by the end of Semester 2 in second year.

Schedule: 8 Fridays per Semester (2 per month) plus online delivery for the first 3 semesters.

Number of credits

Credits for Full Award: 90 @ NFQ Level 9.

Award title: Master of Arts in Management.

An award with the title 'Postgraduate Diploma in Management' may be granted if learners leave this programme after successfully completing the taught modules in semesters 1 , 2 and 3 and attain 60 ECTS credits with a minimum GPA of 2.00.
