American Literature

The MA in American Literature includes courses on drama, poetry and fiction. Students will engage in the analysis American literary values from the nineteenth century to the present.

Students will be introduced to a broad range of literature and contexts in order to examine the complexity and diversity of American literature.

Classes are seminar-based and will be led by specialists in the field.

The UCD School of English, Drama and Film has a long tradition of excellence and impact in literature and hosts writers-in-residence of international renown.

Entry requirements

This programme is intended for applicants with a background in Literary Criticism or English/ American Literature. An upper second class honours degree, or the international equivalent in English Studies or a related area is required.

•Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS 6.5 (no band less than 6.0 in each element), or equivalent.
