Environmental Management

The programme covers a range of topics relevant to Environmental Management. Subjects include Legislation, Environmental Science and Environmental Assessment and Management 

Course Description
- This part-time programme is designed to be completed over one full academic year (2 semesters)
-The first day of the programme will be Wednesday, September 5th 2018
-Half day workshops will normally be held on Wednesdays between 9 am and 1 pm
-There will be two workshops per module
-Assessment strategies include continuous assessment, assignments, projects and online examinations

Entry requirements

You will need:
- To hold a level 8 qualification (Higher Diploma or Higher Degree with an award of 2.2 or above) from a recognised third level institute

- To have use of a personal computer with good internet access in order to participate in the programme. If you can click on and watch the e-learning sample lecture on our webpage http://www.ucd.ie/cshw/, your software is suitable for this programme

- To supply transcripts of your primary degree or higher diploma and all supporting documentation at the time of application

- To supply an up to date 2 page CV at the time of application

English Language Qualification
- Candidates whose first language is not English and whose primary degree was obtained in a country where English is not the official language of instruction must provide proof of proficiency in English such as IELTS or TOEFL

- The original certificate of completion of an English language test must be enclosed with the application

- Test results must not be more than 2 years old

- Candidates whose existing degree was obtained in a country where the official language of instruction is English, may, at the request of the School, still be subject to the same requirements where English is not the candidate’s first language

Career Opportunities
When you successfully complete the UCD Professional Certificate in Environmental Management you will be able to advise management on a range of environmental legal and regulatory issues in their workplace, have perspective on global and national environmental concerns, have a good understanding of the scientific principles underlying environmental assessment and management and professionally interact with a range of environmental specialists to assess and mitigate potential impacts to the environment.

Programme outcomes:
Display an advanced understanding and thorough knowledge of current national and global environmental issues and the scientific principles underlying these issues.
Be able to provide evidence based solutions to complex environmental problems facing Ireland and Europe.
Have the ability to self-reflect on their own knowledge and understand those limitations in order to continuously update their knowledge.
Be critically aware, through a thorough understanding of the environmental legal and regulatory system, of how to manage complex environmental concerns in Ireland and Europe
Be capable of utilising fully the Irish and EU environmental legislative framework to implement best practice environmental assessment and management procedures
Utilise environmental case law to develop and sustain argument in order to make judgements on the appropriate course of environmental protection.
Display an advanced knowledge of the assessment and management procedures necessary to ensure environmental protection and be capable of integrating into an environmental team tasked with implementing such evidence based practices and procedures.
