Course Description
- This part-time programme is designed to be completed over one full academic year (2 semesters)
-The first day of the programme will be Wednesday, September 5th 2018
-Half day workshops will normally be held on Wednesdays between 9 am and 1 pm
-There will be two workshops per module
-Assessment strategies include continuous assessment, assignments, projects and online examinations

Vision and Values Statement
The purpose of the part-time UCD Professional Certificate in Environmental Management Programme is to provide a broad perspective on environmental assessment and management to professionals that are required to interact with environmental scientists, evaluate specialist environmental inputs to their work and assist in the development of best practice environmental management / mitigation / technologies / design. Learning takes place in the online environment and through live face-to-face interaction with peers, academics and leading industry and regulatory experts in UCD workshops, held six times a year. Teaching methods include a blend of online lectures, discussion fora, provision of bespoke and professional resources, in addition to lecturer-led problem-based workshops. A suite of online study supports are provided, including weekly specified pre and post e-lecture learning activities and prescribed reading. A combination of varied continuous assessment (formative and summative) is utilised across the programme. This high-quality programme is based on the values of student-support, adult-friendliness, research and practice-focused, evidence-based global perspectives, accessibility and professional relevance.

Programme Outcomes
At the end of the programme, graduates will:
-have a clear understanding and knowledge of environmental issues and the scientific principles underlying these issues;

-know the limits of their knowledge and be able to identify the relevant specialist expertise to interact with in order to fully assess and manage environmental solutions;

-be aware of the legal and regulatory system in Ireland and Europe relating to the environment;

-understand the assessment and management procedures necessary to ensure environmental protection.

Entry requirements

You will need:
- To hold a level 8 qualification (Higher Diploma or Higher Degree with an award of 2.2 or above) from a recognised third level institute

- To have use of a personal computer with good internet access in order to participate in the programme. If you can click on and watch the e-learning sample lecture on our webpage http://www.ucd.ie/cshw/, your software is suitable for this programme

- To supply transcripts of your primary degree or higher diploma and all supporting documentation at the time of application

- To supply an up to date 2 page CV at the time of application

English Language Qualification
- Candidates whose first language is not English and whose primary degree was obtained in a country where English is not the official language of instruction must provide proof of proficiency in English such as IELTS or TOEFL

- The original certificate of completion of an English language test must be enclosed with the application

- Test results must not be more than 2 years old

- Candidates whose existing degree was obtained in a country where the official language of instruction is English, may, at the request of the School, still be subject to the same requirements where English is not the candidate's first language

Careers & Employability
When you successfully complete the UCD Professional Certificate in Environmental Management you will be able to advise management on a range of environmental legal and regulatory issues in their workplace, have perspective on global and national environmental concerns, have a good understanding of the scientific principles underlying environmental assessment and management and professionally interact with a range of environmental specialists to assess and mitigate potential impacts to the environment.
