Business Sustainability

The MSc in Business Sustainability is a customised programme run in partnership with Bord Bia. The programme is connected to a key component of Bord Bia's current strategy, Origin Green, the objective of which is to build credentials in sustainable food supply of Irish food and drinks companies with a view to revolutionising, at an international level, how Irish food is positioned using sustainability. In an intense, challenging and constructive learning environment participants are exposed to the area of sustainability and learn about applying this subject area in a very real manner for organisational growth and development.

Who is it for?
The MSc is designed specifically for individuals who come from a broad range of specialist areas and who want to hone their skills in the area of business sustainability. This full-time, highly intensive programme will challenge participants to grow, change and develop. We look for participants who have at least 5 years work experience and can demonstrate an ability to be able to manage academic requirements along with the flexibility to relocate internationally for different elements of the programme.

It focuses on building the business case for sustainability and participants develop a thorough understanding of how to position and help change an organisation so that they can adequately respond to the sustainability agenda.

Participants evolve into sustainability experts with the ability to advise and manage change in an organisation in order to help them respond effectively to key issues in business sustainability.

The Origin Green Ambassador programme is just one of an innovative suite of talent development programmes run in conjunction with UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School which also serve to support the growth of the Irish food, drink and horticultural industry on a global scale.

Entry requirements

Participants should hold a primary degree.

Consideration will also be given to applicants who do not hold a primary degree but whose depth of industry / organisational experience, deems them suitable participants.

Successful entry onto the programme involves the completion of an application form, psychometric tests and an assessment centre. Upon completion of the application form, successful candidates are invited to complete each subsequent phase of the selection process.

Subjects taught

The programme delivery model is underpinned by experiential learning opportunities and is built around taught modules, professional skills development, and an internship with an international company as well as a 12 month placement in a Bord Bia international export market.

Taught Modules
Led by UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, the programme includes faculty from Harvard Business School, INSEAD, and MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). Each faculty member is a world-renowned expert in the field of sustainability, food and agri-business who delivers the latest thinking and practice in the area of sustainability.

International placement
This element of the programme is designed specifically for participants to learn alongside expert companies in the area of sustainability. We partner with leading international food companies to provide participants first-hand experience of solving challenges and implementing sustainability programmes.

In-Market Practice
Over the course of the programme participants will complete three 5/6 month placements in a Bord Bia export market where they learn how to build awareness of Irish sustainability initiatives in the market specifically with B2B customers, government and non-government agencies.

Comment

Structure
The MSc in Business Sustainability is a 23 month, full-time programme. The initial 5 months involves taught modules, field trips and participation at industry and sustainability events. Participants then complete three 6-month internship with an international food company in a Bord Bia international export market. Participants will return for block release in between placements to complete academic modules.

Accreditation
Successful participants will be awarded an MSc in Business Sustainability. The qualification is accredited and awarded by UCD and is valued at 110 credits at NFQ Level 9.

Application date

Applications are welcomed from graduates with a minimum of four years' work experience and an interest in business development, sustainability and the food industry. The programme aims to recruit high potential, ambitious and motivated professionals who have aspirations to become future leaders in the Irish food industry.

Course fee

The programme receives financial sponsorship from Bord Bia and leading food and drinks industries in Ireland. Participants on the programme have their fees paid and they receive a bursary payment during their time on the programme.
