Teaching in Further Education

The aim of the Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching in Further Education is to provide a coherent educational programme for those in teaching roles or wishing to teach in the Further Education and Training (FET) sector. Participants will learn about theoretical concepts and will then engage in self-directed learning through project work, applying their learning to their own teaching practice. The Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching in Further Education is a professional qualification which is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to teach in the FET sector. On successful completion of the programme, graduates will gain a nationally recognised teacher education qualification, recognised by the Teaching Council of Ireland.

Entry requirements

• An Honours Degree or equivalent and three years postgraduate experience and all applicants must have access to work in an educational organisation.

• Whilst no previous experience of teaching in the FET sector is required, participants must complete 100 hours of teaching practice in a recognised FET setting i.e., 30 - 40 hours of teaching practice per semester.
