Position:
A panel will be formed from qualified candidates from which permanent and temporary appointments may be made. This is a pensionable whole-time position on the basis of a 35-hour 5-day week.
Duties:
The following are among the principal duties envisaged:
a) Preparation of work programmes.
b) The implementation of capital projects in areas such as water, wastewater, roads, traffic, tourism and recreation, economic development, environment, housing, waste management and other ancillary services etc.
c) Preparation of tender and contract documentation.
d) Surveying and setting out for design and construction projects.
e) Assess planning applications from an engineering perspective.
f) Assess ongoing and completed works and management of budgets.
g) Manage teams and individual employees within those teams, when required to do so.
h) Work within a cross-functional / multidisciplinary team in line with the executive structures of the Council.
i) Represent the Council at meetings with staff, elected members, community/general interest groups, businesses and residents.
j) The supervision and contract administration of construction / operations / maintenance works
k) Maintain and proactively develop a culture of Health and Safety in the workplace.
l) Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation and regulations, and Mayo County Council’s Safety Management Systems.
m) Be able to manage, lead and motivate assigned staff.
n) Ensuring works are implemented in compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations concerning procurement, planning etc.
o) Prepare reports for these meetings as required.
p) Reply in a timely manner to all correspondence and requests for reports.
q) Liaising with and responding to other local authorities, government departments and statutory agencies including the Gardai, EPA, HSE, Irish Water and the TII.
