Advanced Wound Care Management - Micro-credential

Wound care and prevention has grown from limited beginnings to a highly complex specialty with an increasing arena of products, aids and appliances. This requires practitioners to have a highly developed knowledge of physiological and pharmacological concepts in order to provide the patient with the most appropriate treatment and care.

It is clear that within the field of Tissue Viability the position of nurses is developing into one of equal partnership with their medical colleagues and, in many cases, their skills are being acknowledged as being the most appropriate to meet the needs of clients (Bale, 2000).

This module aims to give course members opportunities to explore the subject in depth to enable critical practice in this specialised area of care. The demands of wound care and prevention require comprehensive and detailed analysis of the physiological and psychosocial components of the patient experience along with technical and practical skills to perform holistic assessment and to provide safe and effective treatment based upon current evidence.

This module is relevant to any healthcare professional in any care setting working with people with wounds. Providing up to date, research led teaching ensures that students are fully aware of the latest research and development in wound care management.
