Anatomy for Medical Device Development
Course Outline
The Postgraduate Certificate in Anatomy for Medical Device Development focuses on the anatomical aspects related to the broad discipline of bio-medical device design in relation to the development of human-centric devices, products, services, and experiences.
On completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Anatomy for Medical Device Development, you will have mastered fluency in several technical areas including anatomy of the human musculoskeletal, neurovascular and cardiovascular systems; anatomy for human biomechanics and design of biomedical devices; and design for orthopaedic, cardiovascular and neurovascular disorders.
In addition, this postgraduate course will embed evidence-based and practical aspects related to both device design and related diseases as well as a flexible and modern pedagogical approach to teaching.
Subjects taught
On this course you will complete 30 credits of modules over nine months.

AN6050 Principles of Human Anatomy (5 credits)
AN6051 Human Biomechanics (5 credits)
AN6052 Anatomy for Biomedical Devices - Cardiovascular & Neurovascular Systems (10 credits)
AN6053 Anatomy for Biomedical Devices - Orthopaedics and the Musculoskeletal Systems (10 credits)
Entry requirements
Requirements
Applicants must have a Second-Class Honours Grade 2 in a primary honours degree (NFQ, Level 8) in any of the following relevant subject areas: chemistry, biology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences or science, material science, physics, healthcare science, engineering, physiotherapy, medicine, allied healthcare degrees or cognitive science.
Eligible applicants may be invited for an interview. Selection from among eligible applicants will be made according to the following criteria:
- Performance in their primary degree
- Personal statement
- Interview (As required)
Consideration under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may also be given to applicants who do not meet the above entry requirements but who have relevant professional experience in a suitable field. To demonstrate relevant professional experience, applicants will be assessed on the following criteria and an interview will be required.

This Postgraduate Certificate course is designed and delivered by the iEd Hub, a UCC/MTU-industry education collaboration to produce a new generation of ‘T-professional’ graduates for the Health Tech industry sector. Multinational Medical Device companies with a local presence have been actively involved in the design of the course to provide skills increasingly in demand.
We aim to develop new and convert existing graduates, in the broad discipline of bio-medical device design, for the development of human-centric devices, products, services, and experiences. Cardiology and Orthopaedics are specifically chosen as disease areas to match local industry product demands.
