Business Analytics - Galway

The Master of Science in Business Analytics is an applied programme that provides learners with advanced specialised technical and research skills, as well as competencies in business analytics. Business analytics is the repeated examination of an organisation’s data with an emphasis on using statistical analytical tools and techniques to uncover insights to support innovation, decision-making and overall success in assessing and enhancing the performance of vital operations.



Students will be able to lead and implement appropriate analytics solutions to inform decisions in a business environment on complex management, technical and functional areas relating to organisations, products, processes, and services. Students will learn about a range of topics, including: business intelligence, responsible AI, database management for business analytics, data visualisation, and emerging technologies.

Graduates from this programme will be in a position to take on a variety of business analytics roles while also equipping graduates with the technical and transversal skills necessary to manage, analyse and explore data that will underpin and sustain the workplace of the future. Graduates will possess skills applicable to a wide array of industry job opportunities.



Graduates can expect to attain employment as a Business Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, Operations Analyst, Research & Development roles, and other such roles that involve the implementation of core tools and techniques of modern data professionals.

Applied Project

Candidates must hold a Level 8 Bachelor (Honours) degree with a minimum grade classification of H2.2 or equivalent in Business, Business Information Systems, Business or Data Analytics, IT/Computing or cognate area. Candidates who do not meet this entry criteria will be considered for entry to the programme under a formalised process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This RPL process will be conducted to determine applicant eligibility, in line with approved marks and standards.

When to Apply

Postgraduate courses are popular, and they fill on a first come, first served basis. There are two major intake periods throughout the academic year, September and January. For January start courses, applications typically open in October, and for September start courses, applications typically open in February. Study Hours

The average weekly contact hours for this MSc is 12 contact hours (direct contact time with lecturers and module materials) with additional independent learning time. Students have 36 hours of Independent Learning per week in Semester 1 and 2. During the summer when students are working independently on their projects, students have 48 hours of Independent Learning per week. This Independent Learning time may be more or less depending on student aptitude.

This means that you can apply for part of a Masters first and learn at your own pace or if you are unable to complete the full programme, you can still gain a recognised qualification.
