Computer Science

The Higher Diploma in Science (Computer Science) MHG58 is a postgraduate course intended for graduates whose level 8 primary degree included 3-year's study of Computing. On completion of the course participants would be expected to reach a level of competence equivalent to that of a four year BSc graduate in Computer Science.

Subjects taught

Students choose, subject to module prerequisites, 9 modules; modules chosen must not have been covered at this level in a previous qualification. In addition a project is required.

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree (NFQ Level 8) (or equivalent) with a minimum of a second-class honours, grade 2 (2:2) in a Computing discipline or a degree with Computing as a minor subject. Applicants with less computing than required are recommended to apply for the Higher Diploma in Software Development MHG70.

The course brings graduates to a level equivalent to a 4-year degree in computer science and to apply for jobs intended for such graduates. Graduates will be eligible to apply for further postgraduate study including taught MSc in Computer Science and MSc/PhD by research.
