Data Analytics

The Higher Diploma in Data Analytics is a new, purpose designed course which has been carefully designed to address industry needs. The course is a collaboration between the Departments of Mathematics & Statistics, Computer Science and the National Centre for Geocomputation.



The modules are designed to give students the knowledge and skills to collect, process, analyse and visualise data in order to extract useful information, explore statistical patterns, test hypotheses, and explore the implications of models.



This course is eligible for significantly reduced or free fees under the Springboard funding initiative.

Subjects taught

Students will gain skills in programming, statistics and databases, followed by an advanced module on statistical machine learning. The course includes material on the social and ethical consequences of the use of data and the implications for business and government. In the project module, students will put these technical skills in to practice and gain experience in presentations and report writing. A workplace preparation module will help students transfer these skills to the workplace.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have a recognised primary degree which is considered equivalent to Irish university primary degree level. The degree should be at level 8 in any subject with some mathematical content. The course is not suitable for those with a primary degree in Statistics or Computer Science.



Minimum English language requirements:

Applicants for whom English is not their first language are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to benefit fully from their course of study.
