Education - Adult Guidance Counselling

Overview

The Postgraduate Diploma in Arts (Adult Guidance Counselling) is a professional training course for people working with adults in a guidance counselling setting, providing career information, guidance counselling and labour market services.



The course focuses on the development of the key communication and relationship skills and competencies that underpin the practice of Adult Guidance.



The course provides a critical engagement with the core concepts and ideas concerning marginalisation, exclusion and adult career development. Participants are encouraged to deepen their self-awareness and explore their career narratives and life histories.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have a degree, professional diploma or equivalent qualification. Applicants will be expected to have a minimum of two years, experience working with adults in a developmental setting and seeing a minimum of 6 clients on a regular basis. Applicants should have participated in training courses, workshops or individual session in the area of guidance, counselling and self-awareness.

Duration

Part time over two years in an open-learning format, incorporating e-learning material, over 7x 2-day workshops, 1x 3-day workshop and a week-long summer school.

Fees

In general, there are two levels of fees payable. EU students from EU countries including Ireland pay a subsidised level of fees for both taught courses and research programmes. Tuition fees for students from outside the EU are not subsidised and are thus somewhat higher than for EU students.
