Engineering - Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering - Research

Our Research
Basic and applied research are important activities in the School of Chemical Engineering and Bioprocess Engineering the major areas of interest include a wide range of chemical and bioprocess engineering themes.

Pharmaceutical and Bioprocess Engineering:
Pharmaceutical and Bioprocess Engineering is one the key pillars of research in the School of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering. Ireland is a global leader in the Biopharmaceutical Industry with 9 of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies operating in Ireland. With many graduates from the school of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering working in this sector the school has strong ties with the industry and this is also reflected in continuing world leading research carried out by the school.

- Animal Cell Culture technology
- Cell Biology
- Crystallization

Energy Conversion & Storage:
With the worlds population growing and its resources dwindling, advances in energy conversion and storage are key to ensuring a sustainable future. In the School of Chemical and Bioprocess engineering we are leading the field in the research of Advanced Solar Technologies, Material and Molecular Simulations as well as carbon reduction. This forms part of a wider UCD research focus on Energy Systems Integration.
