Home Economics - Cork
Are you a registered Route 2 post primary teacher with a desire to add Home Economics to your registration?
Our passionate and dedicated team is proud and delighted to offer a part-time Professional Diploma in Education- Home Economics, delivered from our Bishopstown, Cork campus.
The Professional Diploma is aimed specifically at registered Route 2 post-primary school teachers who have a passion for Home Economics and wish to be formally qualified to teach Home Economics to the highest level and standard at post primary level.
This is a Level 8 programme on the National Framework of Qualification (NFQ) and is accredited by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI). It is designed in line with the Teaching Council of Ireland Curricular Subject Registration Requirements (Post-Primary). Upon successful completion of our Professional Diploma programme, graduates will apply to the Teaching Council of Ireland for registration as a post primary teachers of Home Economics.
Our 65ECTs programme emphasis the application of theory to practice and is underpinned by a post-primary pedagogical approach. This integration is brought together cohesively in Semester 2 of Year 2, where students engage in a specialised module called Home Economics Pedagogy. Although this 5ECT module is not formally recognised by the Teaching Council of Ireland, it remains a core component of our programme. Consistent student feedback highlights its significant value, citing it as both highly beneficial and essential to their professional development.

What is RPL?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is when formal recognition is given for what you already know prior to starting on a programme or module. With recognition of prior learning the focus is on learning and not on experience as such. You can apply for RPL in any MTU accredited programme or module. Programmes which are accredited by professional bodies or any external awarding bodies may have their own procedures for RPL which you should refer to.
