Masters by Research

The majority of credits on the programme will be awarded for a large scale research project. Students meet regularly with supervisors to discuss progress and research methods. Relevant research skills/generic modules may also be available to students.



Significant exciting research is ongoing in the field of Music/Music Technology. STC are dedicated to advancing the field, particularly in the context of the creative use of technology, and as such, welcome proposals from potential students in the area. We have specific expertise in topics such as:



Advanced Production Techniques



Composition (Music and Mixed Media)



Surround Sound and Spatial Audio



Sound Design



Music industry Studies



but we welcome proposals more broadly.

Or a graduate of a Level 8 programme ready to take the next step as an independent researcher in your field?

Academic staff and postgraduate research students across IADT lead or collaborate in research projects across the research spectrum – practice-based and scholarly, basic and applied – working with a diverse range of stakeholders and collaborators in the public and private sectors, at local, national and global level.



With research taking place in art, design, entrepreneurship, film, media, psychology, technology, and in many areas of the humanities, we tackle big questions across the creative industries and address some of the most important societal challenges, including equality, diversity, and sustainability. We also investigate and develop innovative approaches to Teaching and Learning across disciplines and utilising a range of digital and collaborative technologies.

Entry requirements

Applicants must normally hold a degree (2nd class honours) at NFQ Level 8 in a relevant discipline. It is possible for applications to be considered under the RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) process.
