The Diploma is awarded at pass and honours levels.



The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications admits those with a First Class or Second Class Grade 1 Higher Diploma to Graduate Membership. Others who have passed the Higher Diploma are admitted to Associate Membership.

This is a one-year full-time course, though it may also be taken part-time over two or more years.

Entry requirements

The minimum requirement for entry to the Higher Diploma in Mathematics is a primary degree in which Mathematics formed a substantial component. This includes degrees such as Mathematical Studies, Computer Science, or Education (with three years of Mathematics). Applicants must have a recognised primary degree which is considered equivalent to Irish university primary degree level.



Minimum English language requirements:

Applicants for whom English is not their first language are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to benefit fully from their course of study. Duration

Fees

In general, there are two levels of fees payable. EU students from EU countries including Ireland pay a subsidised level of fees for both taught courses and research programmes. Tuition fees for students from outside the EU are not subsidised and are thus somewhat higher than for EU students.

Students who attain First Class Honours or Second Class Grade 1 in the Diploma are eligible to apply to higher postgraduate programs in Mathematics or related fields. The Diploma may also be taken as a final course in Mathematics for those wishing to take up employment in, for example, Industry, Commerce, Banking and Finance, Insurance, Software Development, Process Engineering or Education.
